Heel Pain & Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is irritation of the thick band of tissue along the bottom of the foot. It is the most common cause of heel pain.
Common symptoms
- Sharp pain in the heel with your first steps in the morning
- Pain after standing or sitting for a while
- Pain that eases once you warm up
When to see a podiatrist
See us if heel pain lasts more than a couple of weeks or keeps you from normal activity.
How we diagnose it
We examine your foot and may take X-rays or an ultrasound to rule out other causes, like a stress fracture.
Treatment options
- Stretching and supportive shoes
- Custom orthotics and night splints
- Injections
- Advanced therapies or surgery for pain that does not improve
